Lunch feast and the market

Rose prepared another magnificent meal today (left to right), of cassava, sweet potato, rice, fish curry, g-nut paste, salad, water, and pineapple for dessert. At lunch meals, we serve ourselves and often return for a second helping. Chairs are set up in a half circle and conversation flows with questions, stories and laughter. Sharing a daily meal creates a feeling of peaceful comraderie among JGI staff and volunteers.
Today we were joined by another Canadian, named Mark, who is in town briefly from his time researching reforestation programs in Hoima.

On to the Kitoro market that grows to five times it's normal size on Tuesdays...this first shot earned me a scolding from the keeper of these cloths. She was upset that I would take her picture and not pay her. All subsequent shots were taken quickly and secretly.

"Would you like me to pose for you?" he laughed. Not everyone minds a camera.

Ruth and Sarah use their local knowledge to get some nice mangos for Erin.

Minutes prior to taking this photo, there was a big, strong man sitting on this bike and pedaling to spin his grindstone and sharpen a long, skinny knife. He too wanted money for his image, so I snuck back later to capture a picture of his human ingenuity, sans human.

It is hot. This is a land of umbrellas to cut the sun.

Ruth had many friends working at the market stalls, and she led us through the maze of goods and people. We were all interested these deep fried, white ants that she bought for her chickens.
