Bwera Workshop Day 1

Here is comraderie at the lunch table. These guys are digging in and warming into some hearty lunchtime laughs. Robina and I sat outside the circle and were secondary to the social interaction.

Here I am taking some photos for Pete and Nat of the new property recently added behind the school. The head teacher here speaks to the head of the student body. She was amazing in the performance yesterday, and she needed a little lift after exams this morning.

Check out the cool protection students have built for their tree seedlings. There are 150 trees planted on the school property - one for every two students!

Here is the group photo of us today: from back left Sabiti, Robert, Geoffrey, Landus, Lazarus, Jofez, front left me, Gideon and Yoweri.

Nelson, the Director (left) and another Nelson - the chairman of BVSS Parents Association - walked me up the hill behind the school, to the Congo border.

On the way up we saw an active house of burning bricks in production!

Here are the red-eyed kids that keep the fire alive and safe for 24 hours. Actually the really red-eyed boy would not join the photo.

Congo is not a democratic place, even though it's official name is the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It was a seriouto happening to look over to Congo and see the dusty, poor conditions. Uganda's bush community looked better.

Here is the coffee - now if only I could find a cup of it!

G- nuts (ground nuts) with a nice cassava plant in front and an invasive something purple in behind.

Soya beans

Irresistible

Congo is big.

Just as an update to daily life in rural western Uganda, I'll show you my bathroom. Sorry for the lighting, but the sun sets at 6:30. What else is there to do besides document your simple facilities... and plarn...

Top drawer: hair ties
Middle drawer: brushes and floss
Bottom drawer: pit juice, bug juice and Tylenol, just in case.

With love from Jen
