JGI Uganda plarns!

Check on some older posts if you don't know about plarning. We up-cycle used plastic bags to make sleeping mats for the homeless by making plastic yarn and using the single crochet stitch. Below, Erin looks on as Apophia starts the chain by hand, without a crochet hook.




Sarah and Rachel secure some loops.




Even the summer intern, Brian, gets in on the action. He found every possible bag for us on the property and was happy to cut.




Rachel is in charge of Roots and Shoots programs in Uganda. She invited me out, early in my visit, and has become a good friend.




As you can see, Rachel and Apophia are good friends too. They both already know how to single crochet. Apophia's baby is due mid-August and she will have the regular 60 days of Ugandan maternity leave. She looks forward to plarning while she is home with the baby.

    Its Sameer. I stumbled upon a link to your blog on the GNS website and was pleasantly surprised to find out that you are travelling around East Africa this summer. I am sure that you will enjoy your trip greatly, as you probably are already! A safari in the Serengeti is without a doubt a life changing experience and the white sands and turquoise waters of Zanzibar are a truly mesmerizing sight.
