Fin Free Victoria

Fin Free Victoria is gaining support for worldwide shark conservation. Some of the top businesses in Victoria, Saanich and Oak Bay are now officially "Fin Free" as part of our sticker campaign to end shark finning. Young Fin Free spoke to Saanich city council last week and were warmly received. Connected to Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots youth groups, Young Fin Free Victoria will be a positive example for African environmental educators.

Jane Goodall Benefit Concert

Raising $5000 for the Ugandan teacher workshops this summer were a great number of talented musicians, dancers and artists at our Jane Goodall Benefit concert, February 7, 2012. We decorated the Glenlyon Norfolk School stage with primates and instruments, painted our faces with jungle colours and launched our Middle School Roots and Shoots youth group!

Sleeping mats for the homeless

I will try to meet Ugandans where they are!
Used plastic bags are cut to make loops that connect and make plarn - plastic yarn. The plarn is used to crochet 40 single stitches and as many rows as a body needs in length. We've given away eight in Victoria and aim for ten before the adventure to Uganda - June 25th. I will take a dozen crochet hooks to help African educators and students clear their environments of used plastic bags.
